Li Jue Tian's transformation was horrifying to witness. His eyes didn't just fill with rage, but they burned crimson, as if capillaries had burst and filled his sockets with pure fire. He looked up toward the hilltop, not with pleading, but with a shriek that tore at his own throat.
"Demon Lord!! How dare you harm my son?!"
The words were less a question and more a primal challenge to the cosmos. The sheer audacity of the act was a direct, personal defilement.
As if summoned by his roar, the atmosphere itself changed.
'He made a move…'
The unspoken thought passed through every mind simultaneously.
And just then, the world bent.
An extremely powerful and tyrannical pressure manifested, not from a single direction, but from everywhere. It pressed upon their minds, a weight not of gravity but of authority.
It was the feeling of being scrutinized by something that saw your soul as a trivial ledger. A slight, eerie breeze brushed every face, gentle yet cold, lifting the corners of robes and cloaks.
All faces fell, and vigilance turned to visceral dread.
This was no longer a battle between factions, but it was an audience before a sovereign.
Then, the sky performed as the clouds above the hilltop began to roll and rumble. They churned like a boiling cauldron, silver and grey masses swirling in a furious dance.
From this celestial ferment, they solidified and shaped themselves. They formed into a long, flawless flight of stairs, a staircase of condensed cloud and mist, gleaming with an ethereal light. It descended gracefully from the hilltop to the ground, a bridge between the mortal plane and the entity above.
All eyes were locked upward, and there, at the top of the cloud staircase, stood the figure.
It was the Demon Lord.
First, he raised his head. His movement was slow, deliberate, revealing a pair of eyes that were magnificent as stars, and deep as an ocean. They held galaxies of cold intelligence and boundless, detached power. They gazed down, and every person felt individually seen, individually measured.
His attire was a study in imposing elegance, consisting of a sleek black outfit underneath a flowing black robe that seemed to absorb the light around it. His face was concealed behind an oni mask, its surface polished dark, etched with red engravings that curled like demonic scriptures.
And his scarlet hair fluttered in that supernatural breeze as if alive. His hands were clasped behind his back, the posture of absolute ease, of someone who found the entire scene beneath him mildly entertaining.
He took a step forward.
It was a simple, casual step onto the first cloud-step. The staircase held him perfectly.
It was as if the clouds had been waiting for his footfall for centuries. Each subsequent step was measured, calm, and inexorable. With every descent, his aura unfolded further, resembling that of a mighty Emperor, a being above all laws, above all morals.
To him, the world was a tableau, and its inhabitants were brushstrokes he could alter at whim.
The psychological weight was crushing.
With every step he took downward, it felt as if he was placing his foot upon their chests. The hearts of everyone present hammered, their breaths shortened as a collective suffocation gripped the crowd.
The fear of death wasn't just fear, but it was a certainty whispered directly into their spirits.
This was not an enemy you could fight.
This was a force you could only endure or be erased by.
He moved through the sky as if strolling through his own garden, finally frittering down to the ground with a lightness that defied his overwhelming presence. The cloud staircase dissipated behind him, melting back into the sky, leaving only the man standing before them.
Li Jue Tian's transformation was complete. From a raging, vow-making father, he crumbled completely, and his expression collapsed into ashes. The fight drained from him visibly, his spirit evaporating under that star-like gaze.
Plop!
With a plop, he fell to the ground, collapsing in defeat. He was an empty shell. He lowered his head because his neck could no longer support the weight of his despair. His question was a whisper, a fragment of a broken man.
"Why?"
Demon Lord looked at him. The gaze was not of hatred, nor of pity. It was the look of someone observing an ant, a tiny, interesting creature whose struggles were quaint. He could crush it at any moment, but chose to speak first.
His voice, when it came, was cool, melodious, and laced with a terrifying playfulness. "You have lost the battle. And as promised, I just cut off your son's legs… What can you even do?"
The words were a reminder of the contract, twisted into a taunt.
The promise had been fulfilled, but the method was a masterpiece of overkill.
The question was not rhetorical.
It was a genuine inquiry into the limits of Li Jue Tian's now-meaningless power.
Then, the ultimate, dismissive rationale.
"You ask why?... Simple because I can…"
It was the core of his philosophy.
Power exercised not for need or justice, but for the demonstration of capability.
A god playing with mortals because the toys were available.
The cold snort that followed sealed it, and it left others dumbfounded, their minds struggling to process the sheer casualness of the cruelty.
Li Jue Tian, already broken, coughed up a mouthful of blood from the sheer internal rupture of his soul. His son whimpered in the background, a continuous, low moan of agony, the living proof of the Demon Lord's whim.
The Demon Lord stood now among them, his red hair barely moving, his oni mask hiding a smile the crowd could only imagine. He had descended from the clouds, answered a vow with a violation, and framed it all as a mere exercise of his will.
Just as Demon Lord had finished, a sharp sword light flashed.
It didn't come from the hilltop, but from within the crowd.
It was a horizontal slice of silver so fast that everyone was unable to react. It passed through Li Teng Yun, who was still screaming, a continuous, ragged sound of agony.
The light dissected Li Teng Yun's torso, which was already a monument of pain, exploding it into dozens of pieces. Each fragment was cleanly severed, all suspended momentarily in the air like a gruesome constellation before raining down.
Tap... Tap... Tap...
The rain of blood drenched the ground. A splatter pattern of gore spread in a perfect circle, each droplet hitting the earth with a soft, terrifying tap.
The screaming ceased instantly, replaced by the wet, meaty thud of falling flesh.
Everyone was dumbfounded. Their heads, already turned toward the Demon Lord, now swiveled again, a collective jerk of disbelief, their eyes landing on the source.
The sword attack came from Young Master Jun. He stood calmly, a sharp sword in his hand, gleaming with a light that hadn't yet faded. He was walking toward his master, the Demon Lord, with a casual stride. His face bore an expression of mild satisfaction, as if he'd just solved a tedious puzzle.
"You!" Li Jue Tian croaked, all the words that he could muster. His fiery eyes locked on Jun Mo Xie, wanting to unleash a torrent of curses, to demand reason, to summon the last vestiges of his power to kill the youngster, but he stayed rooted as he was too shocked.
The second violation, so swift and so complete, had broken the last cog in his mind. His son was not just mutilated now, but he was erased, rendered into components.
Li Jue Tian could only stare, his mouth opening and closing silently, a fish gasping on land.
Jun Mo Xie reached his master's side and snorted. "I just don't like the ugly face of your bastard son, that's all!"
His tone was dismissive, almost bored.
He wasn't justifying an act of war or revenge, but was stating a personal aesthetic preference. He offered no further explanation, not giving any face to the broken father.
It was the ultimate insult.
Demon Lord watched his disciple approach, a faint, approving tilt to his masked head. He then stepped forward, placing himself between Jun Mo Xie and the remains of Li Jue Tian's world. He spoke, and his voice was a masterpiece of mockery wrapped in false apology. "Ah, I promised only to cut off your son's legs, and I fulfilled it…"
He gestured vaguely toward the chunks. "I don't kill him."
The statement was technically true as the Demon Lord's initial cut had not been fatal, but it was delivered with such playful cruelty that it twisted the meaning into a joke. He had kept his word, while his disciple had exercised his own whims.
The partnership was perfect: one provided the framework, the other the flourish.
