Back in Tian Xiang City, the next morning
Inside the Jun Family residence, the peace of dawn was torn apart by a series of ghost-like howls.
"Wuuuu~ Awooooo~!"
Jun Mo Xie, the dignified Young Master of the house, was dragged from his warm bed like a criminal being hauled to execution. His bleary eyes blinked open, and the first sight that greeted him nearly made his soul leave his body.
Standing before him was Fatty Tang, except this Fatty was different.
Clad head to toe in black clothes that looked almost sleek, he actually seemed to be in high spirits. What was more shocking was that his massive body had slimmed down, not much, but enough that one could, with good imagination, almost recognize him as a man. His face was scrubbed until it shone, his hair neatly combed, and an odd fragrance of honey locust drifted from him.
But the real killer, his entire round face was plastered with cosmetic powder. Not just a touch. Oh no, this was a battlefield of powder so thick that it could scare ghosts back into their graves.
"Bleeeuuurgh—!" Jun Mo Xie gagged violently.
"Fatty, what in the nine heavens are you doing?!" He held his nose and retched. "That much powder on your face with your body type... are you trying to scare people to death? You look like a ghost that drowned in a bag of flour! And why in hell did you wake me so early? Look outside, it's barely dawn!"
Tang Yuan, bashful as a maiden, rubbed his powdered cheeks. "Third Young Master… brother… did you not promise to accompany me to meet the Sun Family's Young Miss?"
Jun Mo Xie blinked, then sat up abruptly. "Miss Sun… oh! That's Miss Sun? Isn't she your fiancée? The one you once gambled away like a pot of wine?"
"Bullshit!" Fatty flared up, his powdered face cracking like plaster. "You dare bring that up in front of her, and I'll—! I've mended my ways, haven't I?! No more gambling! No more nonsense!"
He puffed up proudly, turning side to side as if admiring himself. "Look at me! Slimmer, eh? Quite impressive, right?"
Jun Mo Xie raised an eyebrow, lips twitching. "Slimmer? Yes… truly slim. In fact, you almost look like a human. A little. From the right angle."
Fatty roared with laughter, throwing his arms wide, then spun around twice like a peacock.
Slap! Slap!
Unfortunately, the moment he twirled, the belly he had carefully sucked in came loose like an untied bundle. His stomach wobbled, swung with its own rhythm, and smacked against his thighs in protest.
Jun Mo Xie winced, covering his eyes. "Enough! Spare me this torment! The heavens are weeping!"
"I'm meeting Miss Sun for the first time," Fatty said dreamily, his eyes practically turning into heart shapes. "I must make the best impression!"
Jun Mo Xie groaned inwardly. 'That poor Sun Family lady… to endure this 250-kilogram calamity. What sin has she committed?'
After breakfast, they prepared to leave. Fatty was so anxious that he fidgeted constantly, his eyes darting to the sun as if it moved too slowly.
Finally, they called for a burly bodyguard and set out.
On the road, Fatty fidgeted endlessly, his fat quivering with each nervous twitch.
"Third Young Master," He muttered, "what if what you said comes true? What if Miss Sun takes one look at me and decides I'm too fat? Too heavy? Too ugly?"
Pffffft!
His anxiety was so great that he let out an enormous fart, right onto the horse's back.
The poor beast neighed in outrage, foam gathering at its mouth as it staggered. Its nostrils flared as if begging the heavens for mercy.
Jun Mo Xie sighed, eyes wandering lazily over the streets. "Mm."
Fatty, oblivious to his companion's disinterest, glanced down at his belly again and gritted his teeth. A thought suddenly struck him and He turned sharply.
Crack!
The horse beneath him groaned pitifully, its legs trembling as if its spine had been twisted by that sudden turn.
"Third Young Master!" Fatty's eyes shone. "You once said I should lose weight. If you supervised me… would it work?"
Jun Mo Xie touched his chin, smiling slyly. "Once your injuries heal, I'll personally oversee it. I'll make you as thin as a bean sprout."
Fatty's entire face lit up. He batted his eyes, his meaty fingers pinching together in a delicate pose. "Then you'll see how handsome I truly am… you might even fall for me, eh?"
Jun Mo Xie shuddered violently, then cracked his whip with a sharp Snap! His horse shot forward like an arrow, leaving Fatty behind.
He spat in disgust. "Bah! That coquettish face of yours is enough to kill a man! If you ever show me that again, I'll exile you myself!"
Fatty pouted, but quickly perked up when they neared their destination.
"So… this is where she arranged to meet you? A restaurant?" Jun Mo Xie narrowed his eyes, spotting the signboard ahead. He chuckled. "Interesting. I didn't expect Miss Sun to choose such a place. Tell me, Fatty, was this your idea?"
Fatty blinked, shaking his head. "Of course not! But… I think it's a fine idea! Why not a restaurant?"
Jun Mo Xie clicked his tongue. "A man meeting a man in a restaurant, sure. But a woman meeting her fiancé in public? Very unusual. Fatty, it seems your future wife isn't a woman of ordinary temperament."
Fatty sneered, his eyes rolling. "Oh, so you think she should've invited me to a brothel instead?"
Jun Mo Xie laughed, shaking his head. "With your face full of powder, Fatty, I'd say you'd fit right in as the madam of one."
Jun Mo Xie wasn't even able to find the time to react when a blur of white streaked through the air. From within the restaurant, a snow-like shadow shot forth, landing squarely on his shoulder with a speed that could rival even the swiftest of experts.
The attack was too sudden.
Even with his vigilance, Jun Mo Xie found himself forced to accept the intruder as it settled itself comfortably.
The little creature let out a faint whine, sliding down from his shoulder to his chest. It floundered adorably for a moment, then hooked its tiny claws into his robe and nestled itself firmly against his heart. With a contented grunt, it buried its small head into the hollow of his collarbone, curling up as though it had just returned to the warmest and safest sanctuary in the world.
Jun Mo Xie, however, had already noticed it long before it appeared. His sharp senses had picked up its presence the moment it came within range.
"Whoa… so it's you, you little rascal," Jun Mo Xie chuckled softly, reaching out to flick one of its furry ears. "What are you doing here, you tiny thing?"
Naturally, the little intruder was none other than Dugu Xiao Yi's iron-winged panther cub!
But Jun Mo Xie's sharp eyes immediately caught on to something new.
The cub was no longer the small bundle of fur he remembered. It had put on quite a bit of weight in such a short time, rounder and plumper, its little belly rising and falling with every breath. More importantly, near its ribs, faint protrusions could be seen, rudimentary bones pushing out, as though impatient to grow.
The iron-winged panthers were famed for only developing fleshly wings upon nearing adulthood, yet this cub, barely a month old, was already showing the first signs of vestigial wings!
Jun Mo Xie's gaze deepened. 'Good… its potential is terrifyingly high.'
