The warning on Pax's tablet flashed once, then again, each pulse a narrow red line that made the archive wing feel even smaller than it already had. Fang did not need the message to understand the shape of the threat. Something had been placed against the outer seal. Not just a scanner this time, or an inquiry plate, but an active device meant to test, pressure, and possibly override the archive's locks.
Wolf shifted his weight towards the door. "That is either a breach tool or a very determined piece of bureaucracy."
Pax did not look up from the tablet. "At this point those are the same thing."
