Pedro shook his head. "No."
"Then... what did he ask of you?" she pressed, her wrinkled eyes narrowing.
The man slowly lifted his gaze to meet hers.
"He wanted me to be his personal accountant."
Madam Beckett stared at him for a beat before letting out a disbelieving scoff.
"His personal accountant?" she repeated. "I would've believed you far more if you'd told me he wanted you to be his guy inside the guards' recruitment department."
She folded her arms across her chest.
"I don't know whether it's been leaked to him or not, but it would've made perfect sense for Ryley to want someone feeding him information—how we recruit, who we're recruiting, and who ultimately gets assigned to be his sons' future Patron Aegis."
