She leaned forward, squeezing his hand slightly.
"Let things settle first. When the storm passes, you'll have your chance to step into your role properly."
Vincent shook his head slowly, his eyes falling shut as if the thought itself exhausted him.
"No…" he murmured, voice tightening. "They won't stop."
His fingers tightened faintly around hers.
"Not until I officially marry you," he said, quieter now but more certain. "Not until I'm finally recognized as the Sovereign's family."
The weight of his words lingered between them.

Both of them turned as the door opened and a guard stepped in, bowing respectfully.
"Miss, Mr. Jade is here," he reported. "He says it's urgent."
Starla frowned slightly, her hand slipping from Vincent's as she straightened.
