Ryley didn't resist, didn't even try to speak. He let it happen, letting the memories drag him under with every second that passed.
When they stepped out, Clyde guided him toward the bank again, leading him in silence toward the large tree standing nearby.
But this time, Ryley couldn't follow.
His steps faltered, then stopped completely, his body refusing to move any further. Something inside him finally gave way.
Clyde stopped too, turning back almost immediately, his grip still firm around Ryley's hand. "What's wrong?" he asked, his voice softer now, but laced with concern.
Ryley's fingers tightened around his hand, his gaze dropping as his brows slowly crumpled.
"I don't know why you're doing this…" he muttered, his voice barely steady.
The words felt heavy, like they were being dragged out of him against his will.
