Chapter 1 - Prologue:

[Warning: The names, places, and situations in this story are fictional and differ from actual historical facts.]

The vast continent of Arghon, spanning four distinct kingdoms, has been ruled by the powerful Wang dynasty since 600 AD. Holding the longest reign in remembered history, their immense power extends across every state.

However, after two hundred years of absolute rule, stability within the great, walled Jade City has begun to fracture. A prophecy delivered by a renowned dame, famous for her visions of the future, has sparked widespread anxiety and erratic unrest.

Emperor Wang Long is the sixteenth ruler of the dynasty, having ascended the throne five years ago following his father's death. Known for his strict nature and rigorous approach to governance, Wang Long maintains the peace treaty that binds the four kingdoms to his rule. Originally crafted with the help of his late father, this treaty successfully brought an end to the brutal wars waged between neighboring states and the imperial crown.

To safeguard this peace, the Emperor established a centralized educational system. Under this regime, children are trained to pass the empire's highest examinations, preparing them to protect their kingdoms. While the sons of noblemen are guaranteed entry, ordinary children and gifted boys from common backgrounds can earn a place within the prestigious imperial academy by passing a grueling civil service exam.
