Faye returned to the bedroom to see Tessa Caldwell, just in time to meet the doctor coming out of the room.
The doctor nodded in greeting, intending to leave, but Faye called her back and took her to the study, where he asked about a concern that had been nagging at him.
"My wife's mother has a hereditary sudden heart condition, with a roughly fifty percent chance of inheritance. We're unsure if she carries it, and how it might affect her pregnancy."
The doctor's expression darkened as she recalled previous examinations of Tessa, contemplated for a moment, and then said, "Current tests show that your wife's body doesn't have any irregularities, but it wasn't a professional cardiac exam. Mr. Carver, has there been a specialized examination in this regard before?"
