When Dad Caldwell woke up, he only felt his throat was dry. He swallowed his saliva, looked at the dark room, and instinctively shouted, "Is anyone there?"
But he shouted until his voice turned hoarse, and no one came in. What answered him was the echo in the room, with the chains binding his hands clanging in response.
The room wasn't big; to be precise, it was very small. He looked around and found there wasn't even a door.
There were only four walls. The reason he could breathe was because there was a vent at the top, but no light came through, so he didn't know whether it was day or night.
Where was this place, and how did he end up here?
Kenneth Caldwell was exhausted, hungry, and thirsty. His wrists ached with a numb pain from the chains.
He sat on the ground weakly, recalling what had happened to him before.
