Chapter 192 — The First Demon
The door opened without anyone touching it.
Crowley looked up.
For half a second, he didn't move.
Then his expression changed.
Brook noticed immediately.
"What?"
Crowley stood.
"Nothing."
Sera looked toward the doorway.
A woman stood there.
No guards.
No announcement.
No warning.
She had simply appeared inside Asteria's palace.
Henry slowly stood.
Charon emerged from behind his shoulder.
The ectoplasm stretched upward.
Brook's instincts immediately reacted.
Not like they had with Silvet.
This was different.
The mark connected to his Hell Source burned.
Brook grabbed his arm.
The woman noticed.
And smiled.
Brook looked at Crowley.
"Who is that?"
Crowley's voice was quieter than usual.
"Lilith."
The room became silent.
Henry looked between them.
"Like—"
"Yes," Crowley said.
Henry stopped.
"Right."
Lilith stepped into the room.
The guards outside finally noticed her.
Their weapons were raised immediately.
She looked at them.
They froze.
Not because she attacked.
Because something inside them understood they were not important enough to threaten her.
Sera stepped forward.
"You entered the palace without permission."
Lilith looked at her.
"And?"
Sera's expression hardened.
Brook raised one hand.
"Sera."
She didn't lower her spell.
Crowley watched Lilith carefully.
"You don't usually leave Hell."
Lilith smiled.
"You haven't been keeping track of me."
Crowley's eyes narrowed.
"That wasn't an answer."
"No."
For several seconds, neither moved.
Brook watched them.
This wasn't like Crowley.
Crowley normally looked amused.
Relaxed.
Confident.
But now—
he was calculating every word.
Brook looked back at Lilith.
The Hell Source inside him reacted again.
Harder.
Heat spread beneath his skin.
Lilith noticed.
Her smile disappeared.
She looked directly at Brook.
And for the first time—
she seemed genuinely interested.
"So."
Brook frowned.
"So what?"
Lilith took a step toward him.
Crowley immediately moved between them.
"Don't."
Lilith looked at Crowley.
"I was walking."
Crowley's expression remained cold.
"You were walking toward him."
"Yes."
Crowley didn't move.
Lilith sighed.
"You're exhausting."
Brook stepped around Crowley.
"What do you want?"
Lilith looked at him.
The Hell Source reacted again.
Brook's skin burned.
He gritted his teeth.
Lilith's eyes narrowed.
Then she whispered:
"Of course."
Brook frowned.
"What?"
Lilith looked toward Crowley.
"You let this happen?"
Crowley stared at her.
"I didn't make him."
Brook looked between them.
"Can everyone stop talking about me like I'm not here?"
Nobody listened.
Lilith stepped closer.
This time Crowley didn't stop her.
She raised her hand.
Brook prepared to move.
Then—
Lilith touched the air in front of his chest.
The Hell Source exploded.
Brook dropped to one knee.
"Brook!"
Sera moved.
Crowley raised his hand.
"Don't."
Sera stared at him.
"He's—"
"Wait."
Brook gritted his teeth.
The heat wasn't burning him.
It was moving.
His Hell Source surged through his body.
Inside his mind—
Lucifer opened his eyes.
Brook saw him.
For the first time since waking.
Lucifer didn't speak.
He simply looked past Brook.
Toward Lilith.
Brook's eyes widened.
Lilith could feel him.
Not see him.
Feel him.
Her hand trembled slightly.
Then she pulled it away.
The Hell Source calmed.
Brook stood.
Lilith stared at him.
Brook's voice was cold.
"Who are you?"
Lilith smiled.
"I was wondering when someone would ask properly."
Crowley sighed.
"Don't."
Lilith ignored him.
She looked at Brook.
"Lilith."
Brook waited.
She smiled.
"The First Demon."
Silence.
Henry slowly looked at Crowley.
Crowley didn't react.
Henry looked back at Lilith.
"That sounds important."
"It is."
Charon whispered:
"Demon."
Henry nodded.
"Yeah."
Lilith's eyes moved toward Charon.
The ectoplasm immediately disappeared.
Henry blinked.
"Charon?"
Nothing.
Lilith smiled.
"Smart."
Henry looked toward Brook.
"Why is everyone afraid of her?"
Crowley answered.
"Because they should be."
The guards were finally ordered out.
The room became quiet.
Lilith sat without being invited.
Brook remained standing.
Sera remained beside him.
Crowley stood across from Lilith.
Henry sat down slowly.
Charon remained hidden.
Brook stared at Lilith.
"You came from Hell."
"Yes."
"Why?"
Lilith crossed her legs.
"To speak with Crowley."
Crowley immediately frowned.
"Then why are you looking at Brook?"
Lilith smiled.
"Because he's more interesting than you."
Crowley's expression darkened.
Brook almost smiled.
Almost.
Lilith leaned back.
"Hell is changing."
The room became serious.
Crowley stopped smiling.
Brook noticed.
"What does that mean?"
Lilith looked toward the window.
"Things are moving."
Brook waited.
"That's vague."
Lilith smiled.
"You're learning."
Crowley sighed.
"Lilith."
Her expression changed.
The humor disappeared.
"Hell is unstable."
Silence.
Crowley stared at her.
"Why?"
"I don't know."
Brook frowned.
Lilith continued.
"Demons are fighting."
"Territories are changing."
"Things that have remained buried are waking."
Crowley's eyes narrowed.
"What things?"
Lilith looked at him.
"Old things."
That answer didn't help anyone.
Sera folded her arms.
"Why come to us?"
Lilith looked toward her.
"Not you."
Then Crowley.
"Him."
Crowley stared.
"Why?"
Lilith smiled.
"You're one of the few who can survive what is happening."
Henry looked at Crowley.
Crowley didn't react.
Brook noticed something else.
"Because of the Lazarus Pit."
Lilith's eyes moved toward him.
Brook continued.
"You know he can use it."
Lilith smiled.
"Of course."
Crowley sighed.
"Everyone knows everything."
Lilith ignored him.
"The Lazarus Pit is not a secret."
Brook frowned.
Crowley looked at him.
"Don't."
Brook ignored him.
"It heals you infinitely."
Lilith nodded.
"Yes."
Henry leaned forward.
"Infinitely?"
Crowley looked at him.
"Don't get any ideas."
Henry leaned back.
"Wasn't planning to."
Lilith continued.
"Crowley possesses something that makes killing him a temporary inconvenience."
Crowley smiled.
"Exactly."
Sera looked at him.
"You say that like you're proud."
"I am."
Lilith continued.
"But survival is not strength."
Crowley's smile disappeared.
The room became quiet.
Lilith looked directly at him.
"Something is coming."
Brook frowned.
"Silvet?"
Lilith shook her head.
"No."
Crowley stared.
"The Maker?"
Lilith looked toward him.
"No."
That answer was worse.
Brook slowly said:
"Then what?"
Lilith's eyes moved toward the floor.
"I don't know."
Nobody spoke.
Crowley followed Lilith outside the room.
Brook watched them leave.
Sera looked toward him.
"You're going to follow them."
Brook didn't answer.
"You are."
Brook stood.
Henry immediately stood too.
"Us?"
Sera sighed.
"Obviously."
They found Crowley and Lilith standing outside one of Asteria's abandoned temples.
Brook stopped.
Sera beside him.
Henry behind them.
Crowley noticed.
"Really?"
Brook folded his arms.
"You didn't invite us."
Crowley sighed.
Lilith smiled.
"Let them stay."
Crowley looked at her.
"I wasn't asking."
Lilith's smile widened.
"That's why I like him."
Crowley looked offended.
"You hate me."
"I can multitask."
The temple was empty.
Ancient symbols covered the walls.
Lilith walked toward one.
Brook followed.
She placed her hand against it.
Nothing happened.
Then—
the stone split.
A doorway appeared.
Not dark.
Not glowing.
Just—
open.
Brook felt heat.
Henry stepped backward.
Charon emerged.
"Bad."
Henry nodded.
"I agree."
Lilith looked into the doorway.
"Hell."
Brook stared.
Crowley walked toward it.
Sera grabbed his arm.
"Wait."
Crowley looked at her.
"What?"
"You're going?"
Crowley smiled.
"Eventually."
Lilith looked toward Brook.
He understood immediately.
"You brought us here to show us."
"No."
Brook frowned.
"Then why?"
Lilith looked toward the doorway.
"To see who noticed."
Brook stared.
"Noticed what?"
Lilith raised her hand.
The doorway changed.
For one second—
Brook saw something move.
A figure.
Tall.
Horned.
Then—
it stepped through.
Brook immediately moved.
The creature was enormous.
Its body covered in black armor.
Two horns rose from its head.
It held a weapon shaped like a broken axe.
The creature looked at Lilith.
Then laughed.
"So."
Its voice shook the temple.
"The traitor opens doors now."
Lilith sighed.
"I knew you were listening."
Crowley stepped forward.
Brook raised his weapon.
Lilith raised one hand.
"Wait."
The demon smiled.
"Still pretending you're powerful?"
Lilith looked bored.
"I'm not pretending."
The creature stepped forward.
"I am General Varkos."
Crowley looked at Brook.
Brook looked back.
Neither knew who that was.
Crowley whispered:
"Should we be impressed?"
Lilith smiled.
"No."
The demon roared.
The temple shook.
Brook moved—
but Lilith was already gone.
She appeared directly in front of Varkos.
Her hand moved.
One word.
"Kneel."
The demon's body slammed into the floor.
The entire temple cracked.
Brook stopped.
Varkos struggled.
Lilith walked toward him.
"You called yourself a General?"
The demon screamed.
Heat exploded from his body.
The floor melted.
Lilith continued walking.
Unaffected.
Brook's Hell Source reacted.
Lucifer watched from inside.
Still silent.
Lilith stopped in front of Varkos.
The demon raised his weapon.
Lilith looked at it.
"Drop."
The weapon fell.
Henry's eyes widened.
"Her Word magic?"
Sera whispered.
"No."
Lilith looked down at Varkos.
"Mine."
She raised her hand.
Varkos screamed.
Lilith spoke again.
"Quiet."
The scream stopped.
Brook stared.
The creature's mouth was still open.
But no sound came out.
Lilith looked toward the others.
"Lower demons."
Crowley frowned.
Lilith looked back at Varkos.
"That's what they do."
Brook stepped closer.
"Lower demons?"
Lilith nodded.
"Hell is full of things like him."
Varkos tried to move.
Lilith looked down.
"Stay."
His body froze.
Lilith sighed.
"Some are weak."
She looked toward Varkos.
"Some simply believe titles make them stronger."
Varkos' eyes burned with hatred.
Lilith crouched.
"You should have stayed quiet."
The demon's body began cracking.
Black smoke poured from his mouth.
Brook watched.
Lilith stood.
"Return."
The doorway pulled Varkos backward.
The demon screamed silently.
Then—
he was gone.
The doorway closed.
The temple became quiet.
Brook looked at Lilith.
"That was a fight?"
Lilith smiled.
"You wanted to see Hell."
Brook stared.
"That was a demonstration."
Lilith's smile widened.
"Exactly."
Outside—
Crowley remained silent.
Lilith walked beside him.
Brook and the others followed.
Finally, Crowley spoke.
"You came here for more than that."
Lilith looked at him.
Crowley stopped.
"So tell me."
Lilith's expression became serious.
"Silvet."
The group stopped.
Brook looked toward her.
"What about him?"
Lilith stared at Crowley.
"He is moving."
Crowley frowned.
"We know."
"No."
Lilith shook her head.
"You don't."
Brook stepped closer.
"What do you mean?"
Lilith looked toward the horizon.
"Silvet works for the Maker."
Crowley's expression hardened.
"But he does not move like someone following orders."
Brook thought about what the Maker had told Silvet.
Do what you want.
Lilith continued.
"The Maker may know where he sends Silvet."
Crowley stared at her.
"But that doesn't mean the Maker knows where Silvet decides to go."
Silence.
Sera looked toward Brook.
Brook understood.
Silvet had freedom.
Real freedom.
That made him harder to predict.
Lilith looked at Crowley.
"Don't assume the Maker controls everything."
Crowley's eyes narrowed.
"That's dangerous information."
Lilith smiled.
"Everything important is."
Brook approached Lilith.
"One question."
She looked at him.
Brook's Hell Source burned again.
Inside his mind—
Lucifer opened his eyes.
Brook knew.
Lilith could feel it.
"Lucifer."
Lilith's expression changed.
Crowley immediately looked toward Brook.
"What?"
Brook didn't take his eyes off her.
"Do you know he's inside me?"
Lilith remained silent.
Brook stepped closer.
"Answer me."
Lilith stared at him.
Then quietly said:
"He knows you."
Brook froze.
"What?"
Lilith looked toward his chest.
"The question isn't whether Lucifer knows who you are."
The Hell Source surged.
Brook's eyes widened.
Lilith's voice became quieter.
"It's why."
Brook immediately entered his inner world.
Darkness.
Michael.
Lucifer.
Death.
Brook stood before them.
"Lucifer."
Nothing.
"Why does she know you?"
Silence.
Brook stepped closer.
"Why do you know me?"
Lucifer smiled.
But didn't speak.
Brook returned to reality.
Lilith was gone.
No portal.
No sound.
Nothing.
Crowley stood beside him.
Brook looked around.
"Where did she go?"
Crowley stared toward the empty road.
"I don't know."
Brook looked at him.
"That has to be the first time."
Crowley didn't smile.
Brook understood.
Lilith had frightened him.
Not because she was powerful.
Crowley was powerful too.
Not because she was immortal.
He had the Lazarus Pit.
Lilith frightened him because—
she knew something.
And she wasn't telling them.
Crowley finally spoke.
"That's the problem."
Brook looked toward the horizon.
"What?"
Crowley's expression remained serious.
"Lilith doesn't usually leave without getting what she came for."
The wind moved through Asteria.
Brook's Hell Source burned.
Inside his mind—
Lucifer continued smiling.
Still silent.
