Chapter 84 - The Things We Don’t Say

Chapter 84 — The Things We Don't Say

The forest went silent.

Elias stood on the opposite side of the bridge.

Brook stared at him.

"The people who taught you how to hate me?"

Elias didn't answer.

Kael stepped forward.

"What the hell does that mean?"

Elias looked at him.

"You shouldn't be here."

Kael laughed bitterly.

"That's becoming a theme."

Henry raised his sword.

"Elias, just come back with us."

Elias looked at Henry.

For a moment, something broke across his face.

He looked like the Elias they knew.

Tired.

Scared.

Lost.

Then the expression disappeared.

"I can't."

Brook stepped closer.

"Why?"

Elias looked at him.

"Because if I go back with you…"

He paused.

"…they'll follow."

Crowley raised his weapon.

"Who?"

Elias looked toward the forest.

"They're already here."

A horn sounded again.

This time, much closer.

Branches snapped.

Something moved through the trees.

Kael turned.

"Everyone!"

Black-armored soldiers emerged from the darkness.

Dozens.

Brook immediately marked the ground.

White light flashed.

He appeared beside Elias.

Elias stepped backward.

Brook grabbed his arm.

"You're coming home."

Elias stared at him.

"You don't understand."

"Then explain."

"I can't."

Brook's expression hardened.

"You always say that."

Elias looked at him.

"Because sometimes the truth gets people killed."

Brook tightened his grip.

"Then let me decide if it's worth dying for."

Elias stared at him.

For a moment, he almost smiled.

Then the Knights attacked.

The bridge erupted into chaos.

Brook teleported across the battlefield.

Flash.

Strike.

Flash.

Strike.

His movements were precise.

He didn't waste energy.

Michael's influence was present, guiding his instincts without taking control.

Henry fought beside him.

Kael charged into the center.

Sera protected the bridge.

Crowley moved toward the largest group.

Elias stood still for half a second.

Then he joined the fight.

His blade moved with frightening precision.

One Knight fell.

Another.

Then another.

Brook saw him.

"Elias!"

Elias looked over.

Their eyes met.

For a brief moment…

they fought together.

Like they had countless times before.

Brook teleported behind an enemy.

Elias struck from the front.

Henry finished it.

Kael laughed.

"Now that's Xcution."

Brook smiled.

Elias did too.

Just for a second.

Then the smile disappeared.

A black-armored Knight slammed into Elias.

He flew across the bridge.

Brook teleported after him.

"Elias!"

Elias landed hard.

Brook appeared beside him.

"You okay?"

Elias pushed himself up.

"Yeah."

Brook looked at the blood on his face.

"You're lying."

Elias laughed.

"Learned from you."

Brook smiled.

"Idiot."

Elias looked at him.

"Yeah."

Then something struck the bridge.

The entire structure shook.

Everyone stopped.

A massive figure stood at the end of the road.

Black armor.

A horned helmet.

A massive sword.

Asmodaos.

The Knights immediately stepped aside.

Brook's expression hardened.

"Asmodaos."

The Knight of Hell looked at Elias.

Then Brook.

Then Crowley.

He stopped.

His gaze remained on Crowley for several seconds.

Crowley stared back.

Neither spoke.

Kael looked between them.

"What is going on?"

Asmodaos finally looked at Brook.

"You keep following."

Brook stepped forward.

"You keep attacking."

"Because you keep interfering."

Brook raised his sword.

"Where is Draven?"

Asmodaos's expression changed slightly.

Elias looked at Brook.

"Don't."

Brook didn't listen.

"Who is he?"

Asmodaos looked at Elias.

Elias looked away.

The Knight smiled.

"So you found him."

Brook frowned.

"Found who?"

Asmodaos said:

"Draven."

Brook's grip tightened.

"What does he have to do with Elias?"

Asmodaos remained silent.

Brook took another step.

"Answer me."

Elias suddenly shouted:

"Brook, stop!"

Brook turned.

Elias looked terrified.

"Don't ask him."

"Why?"

"Because he wants you to."

Brook froze.

Asmodaos smiled.

"Smart."

Brook looked back at him.

"What do you want?"

Asmodaos raised his sword.

"You."

Brook frowned.

"Why?"

"Because you're the key."

"To what?"

Asmodaos's eyes moved toward Elias.

"Ask your friend."

Brook looked at Elias.

Elias didn't speak.

Kael stepped forward.

"Elias."

Elias looked at him.

"Tell us."

Elias's eyes filled with guilt.

"I can't."

Kael shook his head.

"Then when?"

Elias whispered:

"When it's too late."

Asmodaos suddenly attacked.

Crowley intercepted him.

The collision sent a shockwave across the bridge.

Brook stared.

Crowley and Asmodaos stood face-to-face.

Asmodaos smiled.

"Still hiding."

Crowley's expression remained cold.

"Still talking."

Asmodaos swung.

Crowley blocked.

The impact cracked the bridge beneath them.

Brook had never seen Crowley fight like this.

No wasted movement.

No hesitation.

Every strike was deliberate.

Asmodaos laughed.

"You've gotten slower."

Crowley's eyes narrowed.

"You've gotten weaker."

Kael stared.

"What the hell?"

Henry looked at Brook.

"Those two definitely know each other."

Brook nodded.

"Yeah."

Sera watched Crowley carefully.

There was something different about him.

Something ancient.

Something she had never seen before.

Asmodaos slammed Crowley through a stone pillar.

Crowley rose immediately.

His eyes had changed.

Not physically.

Something deeper.

The air around him felt heavier.

Brook felt Death react.

Then Lucifer.

Then Michael.

All three.

Brook looked at Crowley.

"What are you?"

Crowley glanced at him.

For a moment, his expression softened.

Then he turned back toward Asmodaos.

"Not your concern."

Asmodaos laughed.

"Still afraid they'll know?"

Crowley's expression hardened.

"Enough."

He attacked.

The fight became brutal.

Brook had never seen Crowley move so quickly.

Asmodaos blocked one strike.

Then another.

Crowley kicked him through the side of the bridge.

The Knight fell into the forest.

Everyone stared.

Kael smiled.

"Damn."

Crowley looked at them.

"Move."

Nobody argued.

They retreated.

Asmodaos didn't follow.

The Hell Knights disappeared with him.

Brook walked beside Elias.

Neither spoke.

Finally Brook said:

"You knew Crowley was hiding something."

Elias looked at him.

"Yes."

"You know what he is?"

Elias hesitated.

"I know what he was."

Brook frowned.

"What does that mean?"

Elias looked toward Crowley.

"Some things are better left buried."

Brook stopped walking.

"Everyone keeps saying that."

Elias stopped too.

Brook stared at him.

"I'm tired of secrets."

Elias looked at him.

"I know."

"Then tell me."

Elias's eyes filled with sadness.

"I can't."

Brook's anger returned.

"You keep saying that."

Elias nodded.

"I know."

Brook stepped closer.

"Do you trust me?"

Elias looked at him.

"More than anyone."

"Then tell me."

Elias swallowed.

"I can't."

Brook looked away.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then Elias whispered:

"I'm sorry."

Brook looked back.

"What are you sorry for?"

Elias didn't answer.

He walked away.

Brook watched him.

Something about those words bothered him.

Not because they were strange.

Because they sounded final.

That night, Xcution returned to the house.

Elias went upstairs.

Brook remained downstairs.

Crowley sat alone.

Brook approached him.

"You knew Asmodaos."

Crowley looked up.

"Yes."

"How?"

Crowley didn't answer.

Brook sat opposite him.

"You don't have to tell me everything."

Crowley raised an eyebrow.

"That's new."

Brook smiled faintly.

"But I need to know if we're in danger."

Crowley stared at him.

"We're always in danger."

"You know what I mean."

Crowley sighed.

"Asmodaos isn't simply a Knight."

Brook waited.

"He serves something older than the current Hell hierarchy."

"What?"

Crowley looked toward the window.

"I don't know."

Brook frowned.

"You just fought him like you knew exactly what he was."

Crowley smiled.

"Knowing someone doesn't mean knowing everything about them."

Brook leaned back.

"Fair."

Crowley looked at him.

"You're worried about Elias."

"Yes."

"You should be."

Brook frowned.

Crowley continued:

"Not because I think he's evil."

Brook looked at him.

"Then why?"

"Because whatever is controlling this situation…"

Crowley paused.

"…has been planning it for a very long time."

Brook's expression hardened.

"And Elias is part of it."

Crowley nodded.

"Yes."

Upstairs, Elias stood alone in his room.

He opened the black emblem.

The mysterious voice returned.

You failed to bring him.

Elias stared at the emblem.

"He wasn't supposed to come."

You underestimated him.

"I know."

And now he knows about Draven.

Elias clenched his fist.

"Then I'll deal with it."

The voice laughed softly.

You still think you're in control.

Elias's expression darkened.

"I am."

No.

The voice became quieter.

You're useful.

Elias froze.

"Who are you?"

Silence.

Then:

Soon.

The emblem went dark.

Elias stared at it.

For the first time…

he didn't feel like the person controlling the game.

He felt like a piece on someone else's board.

Downstairs, Brook stood by the window.

He looked toward the eastern forest.

He could still feel something.

A faint presence.

Something connected to Elias.

Something connected to Asmodaos.

Something connected to himself.

Brook closed his eyes.

Michael appeared.

Lucifer appeared beside him.

Death remained farther away.

Brook looked at the three beings.

"Something's coming."

Michael nodded.

Yes.

Lucifer smiled.

Finally.

Brook frowned.

"You're enjoying this?"

Lucifer looked at him.

I'm enjoying watching you become someone who can survive it.

Brook looked at Michael.

"Do you know what's coming?"

Michael's expression remained calm.

Not everything.

Brook sighed.

"Great."

Lucifer laughed.

Welcome to the family.

Brook looked at him.

For the first time, he smiled.

"You're both annoying."

Michael almost smiled.

Lucifer laughed.

And for a brief moment…

Brook forgot about the war.

Forgot about Elias.

Forgot about the secrets.

He wasn't alone inside his own mind anymore.
