Jillyanna's eyes widened in sudden, breathless shock as his lips brushed gently against the sensitive skin of her cheek. He looked as though he were on the verge of uttering something heavy, something that had been burning in his chest for hours—but instead, his dark eyelashes slowly fluttered shut. His heavy frame lost all tension, and his head dropped forward, coming to rest entirely against her shoulder.
"Travis?" she called out softly, her voice barely a whisper in the crisp night air.
She raised a hand to pat his broad back through his tactical vest, trying to steady him, but there was no verbal response. The only sign of life was the slow, faint rhythm of his warm breath puffing against her neck. Exhaustion, adrenaline crash, and pure relief had finally caught up to him, knocking him out cold where he stood.
