PoV Diana
"How was work?" I asked in a soft voice as I heard my husband return home. He had been quickly picked up as a Laborer, which was desperately needed. He looked exhausted as he returned home, and he moved toward the couch. I stopped him, "Dear," I said, stopping him from hitting the couch that was provided in the house we were given for free, "Shower, clean yourself up, then lie down," I chided as I massaged my growing stomach, and he froze before plopping himself down on the couch, and he sighed.
"You're right," He sighed, and he moved toward the bathroom. "Also, it was hard but fulfilling," He told me before entering the bathroom, and I smiled.
I could not help the smile anymore.
Work for me had been great, and because of my pregnancy, like many other women, I could work reduced hours. I was already six months along, and more women pregnant with the Supreme Commander's child started to arrive after a month-long break. Apparently not as many women have been impregnated after I was because the Supreme Commander had been busy and I felt a sense of elation i took the oppertunity when I did.
This life was bliss to a level that others simply had to live in order to understand. At this time, although the schools that had been promised had not been opened, they started to open classes for basics for both adults and children, and my husband was taking classes on the days off.
This city was like none other I had ever even heard of in fairy tales. I was talking to the other women that I worked with, and while I started dinner, I could not help but think about everything. The housing was free, if there was something wrong with the house thenyou simply had to report it and a team would scheldule a repair where you would be informed long before hand in order to make arrangements to be there. The house was also close to your workplace, and I had a place only two blocks away from the tailoring shop where I worked.
Then there was the house itself, which I could not understand. Somehow, they had these things called showers that poured water down to wash yourself. The water was even hot, and you only had to pay a small fee for these conveniences. The house even had this thing called a toilet, which filled with water after you flushed down your bathroom needs. I had no idea how it worked, but that was not something I needed to know.
Then there was my kitchen, which was furnished with even cooking utilities and something called conduction or something —something weird —but someone went over and even provided things to use on it. It was amazing, and they gave warnings on how it worked, what to do, and what not to do. They even had a small class before they provided the equipment. I had to prove I knew how to use it before they would furnish our house with it. It even included things on how to stop something called 'grease fires', which was a fire that, for some reason, water spread instead of putting it out.
There were so many details, and everything had to be taught to you before they furnished your house with it. One of the things was hygiene, where they will give discounts on your furniture if you keep it up, such as not lying down on your couch after a hard day of labor before showering. It was a bit extreme, but if they lowered our fees because of it, who was I to talk about it?
It was amazing —everything was amazing —and my life had never been easier. This was a paradise where I enjoyed every day. Food was plentiful, and the pantry was full, which was a constant worry before. I had no idea how they kept this all up, and I heard there was something they called experiments outside the city, working on increasing food production.
It was so complicated, but life had never been better. At work, I had reduced hours because of my pregnancy, and Doctor Wizards had been checking on me regularly. I was even given days off for these appointments and still had to pay for them! It had no idea how they made a profit to do all this. If I had a worry, it was exactly that. How could they afford all of this? The amount of silver I made was probably more than they could sell my tailored products for!
When I asked, though, the Bunny-kin manager grinned and replied, "We make a healthy profit." After a minute or so of me worrying about my job, he stopped me. "Diana, I get it, you want this place to last and live in this place for the rest of your life," He said, shocking me as he read my mind, "Before I worked here, I would not even dream of this place existing. Hell, I still wonder if I have eaten something that has me in a delirium, or if this is the world of the Goddess for my devotion. But I see the numbers, we are profitable. You might be being paid well, but your output more than makes up for it. If you want to pay back the place, just increase the output of your products without sacrificing quality."
That marked the end of the conversation, and I flushed at the thought of it. The Bunny-kin managers overlooking my husband said much the same thing. When I talked about it with the other women who were full of the Supreme Commander's child, they also asked the same. They all got the same reply. It was the reply we all got.
I wondered if they were lying to us, but I had to take them at their word. I sighed as I worked on the food before me when I heard my husband step out of the bathroom and saw him in the fresh clothing I had bought for him. He smiled as he smelled dinner getting ready, and he walked over and wrapped his arms around me, cradling my stomach and rubbing the Supreme Commander's child.
"Hey, beautiful," He said with a massive grin. His arms are getting more and more muscular by the day after working hard, laboring to build houses.
"Feeling better?" I asked in a soft voice.
"Much," He replied, looking into the stew that I was making. "Smells delicious, but you know, this place is still amazing."
"I know, I was just thinking about it," I replied, flushing as he rubbed my stomach more. I could tell he was starting to look forward to the Supreme Commander's child coming into the world.
"Yeah, it is a topic among the humans in the workplace," he said. "Although I have good news," he said with a grin.
"Oh?" I turned, looking at him, and his grin was playful, "What would that be?" I asked.
"I finally got approved to apprentice as a plumber! You know, one of those things they are calling trades!" He announced, and I looked at him, stunned.
That was one of the educational paths the Bunny-kin managers offered, and it was a hard labor job that brought in much more coin. It was something since my husband learned about it, he wanted to be. "THAT'S AMAZING~!" I cried out, wrapping my arms around him and kissing his lips, feeling his strong arms wrapping around me.
Life could not be better than in this city we have arrived at.
I never wanted to leave this paradise.
As I kissed my husband, I could not help but thank the baby inside of me. It was providing for both of us without ever even living a life, yet. I could not help but want to meet her. The Supreme Commander was the best person in the world, may she thrive for a thousand years.
