I was still lacing the last strap of my armor when Nazu came in, already mid-sentence.
"The trolls sent word before dawn," she said, crossing the room to check the buckle at my shoulder herself. "Their chief wants to visit formally. He's asking to meet you himself."
"For the settlement."
"Yes. For that," she said, "and for something else. He wants to thank you directly. Mar'li, his son, Dabok pulled him out of that swamp creature's jaws. They came yesterday to, well, see you."
She studied my face for a reaction. Finding none, she continued."Apparently, the boy told his father the whole account in detail..." The old chief believes carrying that debt since the day it happened without a visit at least would unsettle his spirit, and he won't sit easy discussing land or borders until he's paid off the debt properly, face to face."
