Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: The Boy Who Returned

Naruto: The Second Chance of Obito Uchiha

Chapter 1: The Boy Who Returned

The battlefield was silent.

For the first time in what felt like years, Obito Uchiha heard nothing.

No explosions.

No screams.

No clashing of jutsu.

Only the sound of his own breathing.

His body was broken beyond repair. The power of the Ten-Tails, the battles against Naruto and Sasuke, and the final confrontation with Kaguya had pushed him past his limits. Every breath felt like it could be his last.

He stared up at the sky.

The same sky he had looked at countless times as a child.

A sky where he once dreamed of becoming Hokage.

A sky where he once believed the world was full of possibilities.

A sky where Rin had smiled at him.

"Guess I really was a failure, huh?"

Obito gave a weak laugh.

For most of his life, he had been running.

Running from his weakness.

Running from his pain.

Running from the guilt of losing Rin.

He had tried to create a world where nobody suffered, but along the way, he became the very thing he hated.

A villain.

A monster.

But in the end…

He had finally understood.

The world didn't need an illusion.

It needed people willing to fight for reality.

His eye slowly closed.

"Naruto…"

The image of the blond ninja appeared in his mind.

A kid who reminded him of himself.

A kid who refused to give up on anyone.

"You really are just like me…"

A small smile appeared on Obito's face.

"Maybe… you were the one who became Hokage for both of us."

His vision faded.

The last thing he felt was warmth.

Not hatred.

Not anger.

Not regret.

Peace.

"Wake up, Obito!"

A familiar voice shouted.

Obito's eyes snapped open.

He immediately sat up, reaching for his weapons.

"Where is Madara?! Where is Kaguya?!"

Silence.

The world around him was different.

Bright.

Warm.

Peaceful.

He looked around in confusion.

Wooden desks.

A classroom.

Students wearing ninja headbands.

His heart stopped.

"No…"

He looked down.

His hands were smaller.

His arms were thinner.

His body wasn't covered in scars.

His destroyed eye was perfectly fine.

"What is this?"

A teacher stared at him.

"Obito, are you okay? You just graduated from the Academy and already spacing out?"

Obito froze.

Graduated.

Academy.

Those words shouldn't have been possible.

Slowly, he turned toward the window.

His reflection stared back.

A young boy with messy black hair and two normal eyes.

A kid who had not yet lost everything.

A kid who had not yet become the masked man.

"No way…"

His voice trembled.

"I'm back?"

Memories flooded into his mind.

The Third Shinobi World War.

His teammates.

Kakashi.

Rin.

Minato-sensei.

The mission at Kannabi Bridge.

His own death.

Everything.

Obito grabbed his chest.

He could still remember the pain.

The loneliness.

The hatred.

But now…

He had a chance.

A real chance.

After leaving the Academy, Obito walked through the streets of Konoha in silence.

Everything looked exactly the same.

The buildings.

The villagers.

The sound of children playing.

The village he once hated was now the place he wanted to protect.

He stopped in front of the Hokage Monument.

His eyes moved upward.

The faces carved into the mountain reminded him of his old dream.

"I wanted to become Hokage…"

He clenched his fist.

"Then why did I let myself throw that dream away?"

A younger version of himself would have laughed at those words.

But Obito wasn't that child anymore.

He had lived a lifetime.

He had seen the future.

He had watched friends die.

He had watched wars destroy everything.

He had watched Naruto carry the burden that should never have been placed on a child.

This time would be different.

"I won't let Rin die."

"I won't let Kakashi carry that pain alone."

"I won't let the world fall into darkness."

A determined look appeared on his face.

"I'll become Hokage."

"But this time…"

Obito looked toward the village.

"I'll do it the right way."

The next morning, Obito arrived at the training grounds.

He expected to struggle.

He expected his younger body to feel weak.

Instead…

His movements were sharper than ever.

Years of combat experience remained.

His instincts.

His knowledge.

His understanding of chakra.

Everything he learned as the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki and during the Fourth Great Ninja War was still inside him.

He formed a hand sign.

A small flame appeared.

"Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu."

The fireball exploded across the field.

A much stronger version than any academy student should have been capable of.

Obito stared at his hand.

"This body is young…"

He smiled.

"But my mind isn't."

A familiar voice interrupted him.

"Obito?"

He froze.

Slowly, he turned.

Standing behind him was a young Kakashi Hatake.

The same serious expression.

The same cold eyes.

But this time…

Kakashi was still just a kid.

Still someone who needed a friend.

Obito looked at him.

For a moment, he saw the older Kakashi.

The man who carried the guilt of losing everyone.

The man who spent years protecting Naruto.

The man who never gave up.

"Hey, Kakashi!"

Obito smiled.

Kakashi narrowed his eyes.

"What are you smiling about?"

Obito laughed.

"Nothing."

He looked at his old teammate.

"Just thinking that we're going to have a great future."

Kakashi raised an eyebrow.

"You're acting strange today."

Obito grinned.

"Maybe I finally became smart."

Kakashi sighed.

"I doubt that."

But Obito didn't care.

For the first time in decades…

He was happy.

Because he wasn't the masked man.

He wasn't Madara's pawn.

He wasn't a villain.

He was Obito Uchiha.

A shinobi of the Hidden Leaf.

And this time…

He would protect the future.
