Descartes stood quietly in the center of the rusted courtyard, his unfathomable eyes sweeping away from Noah.
The old philosopher looked at the thousands of Veiled Descendants standing in perfectly ordered rows, and then he looked up at the massive floating metal cages filled with Inhibited True Lifeforms. He observed the grim, suffocating machinery of THE PAX without a fraction of shock.
"It is a logical inevitability," Descartes said smoothly.
"Those who forge chains for others are simply building the very links that will eventually bind them. To suppress another's existence is to admit that your own standing is too fragile to survive their freedom. The masters of this order built an entire system of cages, and now they find themselves locked. A perfect, symmetrical consequence."
He turned his head slightly, addressing his towering obsidian disciple without raising his voice.
