Chapter 20 - Eternally grateful to you

"You are not eating enough," Doctor said. "So the motion sickness plus coffee on empty stomach acted up. You should have had a heavy breakfast

Are you sleeping well? Do you wake in the middle? What time do you sleep?" Doctor asked her.

Naila looked at Luke, who insisted that he walks in with her. He raised his brow again, asking her to answer with his eyes.

"I.. I have trouble falling asleep. I lie down around 10 but sleep late. And I don't have enough appetite these days," Naila replied.

"Are you on any medication?" Doctor asked.

"I have my daily thyroid meds," Naila answered. "I feel extremely exhausted all the time and sometime my body aches, probably because i don't get to sit while at school," she added and looked at Luke again.

"I will write some tests, give the samples now itself, and then have proper lunch," Doctor said and gave the slip. Luke collected it and stood up.

"Come," he said to her.

"I can do it, you may leave since you have work," Naila said to Luke as they walked towards the lab.

"I will not leave you in the middle. You need help and I will stay," Naila stopped walking and looked at Luke. He turned around and shrugged.

"Don't even think about it. I'm not leaving," he sounded stubborn but look so calm. "Come," he said and started walking again. Naila took a deep breath and followed him.

Naila read through the doctor's prescription. Vitamin tests, thyroid test, calcium, and cbc test.

"I don't have to do these," Naila looked at Luke. "I had tested vitamins six months back. And calcium is normal. I di thyroid once in every three month and took them last month. I really don't need to do these tests. I forgot to say, I am taking the vitamin medicine too. My levels are deficient. It was just nausea," Naila explained. Luke looked confused. He did not know what to say.

"Are you sure?" Luke asked.

"I am," Naila smiled. "Did he not say it was because I did not have proper food?"

"Okay. Then let's go have lunch," Luke said.

"It's ok. You leave. I can go to dorm and grab something," Naila said. She wanted him gone.

"I'm hungry. I should eat too," he appeared to have lots of excuses up his sleeves.

He drove her to a nearby restaurant. "Luke, welcome back. When did you reach back here?" The lady at the cashier hurried to the entrance.

"Aunt Shey, how are you?I reached yesterday around noon," Luke answered.

"Sit sit, what would you like to order?" She appeared to have eyes only for Luke.

Naila noticed how close their relationship is from the way they were addressing each other. They sat at a table in the middle of the restaurant.

"Who is this?" Aunt Shey then asked Luke, staring at Naila. Naila opened the bottle of water and started drinking some.

"A friend," Luke replied.

"When will you bring home a wife?" Naila immediately coughed, spilling the water and sprayed on him. It was awkward.

'What the hell!' Naila could not believe what just happened. Luke and Shey looked at Naila who kept coughing.

Luke got up and patted Naila's head slowly. "Be careful, will you?" Luke said and took the bottle from her hand. "Aunt Shey being us your lunch set," Luke ordered the food.

The lunch set had a bowl of rice, spinach, bean sprouts, grilled beef, prawns fry, falafel, hummus, Pita bread, cucumber salad, yogurt, and chicken shorba.

"Wow," Naila exclaimed. She looked amused, laughed happily, and looked at Luke who looked so pleased. "Thank you," she looked at Aunt Sheybwith her amusing eyes. Shey smiled and winked at Luke.

Naila really enjoyed her food. And she finished all of it, except the bean sprouts. "Eat that too," Luke said. Naila shook her head, taking deep breath, leaning back on the chair, her left hand on her tiny little tummy, rubbing it. Luke pressed his lips together, hiding his smile. "Why? Don't you like it?"

Naila then nodded her head.

"One of the few things I hate," Naila said and drank water again. Luke got up and stopped her, taking the glass from her hand.

'Don't act cute,' he wanted to say and he just looked away. He inhaled and looked at her again. "Water will fill you too much, let's walk to your dorm," he said.

"Good idea," Naila agreed to it. "I will pay," she gor up.

"Don't,' Luke stopped her.

"It's fine. Consider this as one of my treats," Naila said. She knew, a meal wouldn't be enough to thank him, for saving her. Luke raised his brow. Naila just paid and stepped out. The two walked in silence for couple of minutes.

"Luke," Naila stopped walking and looked at him. Facing him but could not keep they eye contact. She kept looking somewhere else, avoiding his gaze. "Life is funny, is it not?" She chuckled. "You saved my life, and I got to know your name only few hours back," Naila remarked. She played with her bag's zipper till she found the courage to look his face and speak. "Thank you," she said and smiled. She had tears in her eyes. It sparkled, but sadly. "I will be eternally grateful to you," she continued. "For today, and for the other day. I really don't know still, if I really thought about it, impulsively or if I was just standing there, trying to wash away my sorrows with the waves, but thank you. I cannot imagine what could have happened," she tilted her head slightly to her right. "Thank you," she said again.

Luke did not know what to say. "I'm glad you are okay now," that's the only words he could find.

"Oh, I will be soon," she replied. Luke looked confused.

"Okay," but he agreed to it.

The two reached the dorm's gate. "I will see you around," Naila said and walked toward the gate. Security checked her ID and let her in. She waved at Luke and walked in. Luke stood there watching her, till she disappeared.

"Why are you here Naila?" Luke talked to himself. One answer he badly wanted from her but afraid to ask for no reason.
