Chapter 14 - Now this was really unexpected

"JASON...?" shouted Gabriel.

Jason did not even glance in Gabriel's direction when the name was shouted.

The man simply continued to smile, the baleful qi coiling thicker around him like living smoke.

"Jason?" he repeated softly, almost amused. "That name means nothing. It was never mine."

"I was never a disciple of your Celestial Haven Sect. That face, that identity, that entire life… was nothing more than a convenient mask. A tool to walk among you, to guide you, and to deliver you here."

As he spoke, the features of his face began to shift—subtle at first, then unmistakable. The familiar contours melted away like wax under heat. Skin tone deepened, bone structure sharpened, eyes darkened into something colder and far older. Within moments, the man who had once called himself Jason was gone.

In his place stood a different figure entirely.

"My true name," the man said, voice now deeper and laced with quiet venom, "is Mo Lihai. Deacon of the Outer God Cult."

"The Outer God Cult?" said Ivan, Gabriel, and Wren, in shock.

---------------------------------------

The Outer God Cult does not conquer by open war.

They are not a single hierarchy but a distributed infection. Cultists embed themselves for years—sometimes decades—inside temples, merchant houses, royal courts, and sects. They adopt the local rites, the local gods, the local grievances. Their faces are perfect. Their loyalty is performed. Only when the soil is soft enough do they begin the real work.

The "demonic seeds" are not metaphor. They are buried engines of hunger, planted in deep places where the earth's memory is thin. Each living offering—bound, broken, still warm—is fed into them. The seeds swell. The soil grows wrong. Local reality begins to thin. What emerges is not a servant or a herald. It is appetite given form.

The Outer Gods do not want worship, empire, or ideology. They want to devour. Everything else—the infiltration, the false faces, the carefully staged sacrifices—is only the mechanism that brings more mass and more consciousness within reach of their hunger.

That is the entire theology. There is no higher purpose, no promised paradise, no secret knowledge that elevates the cultist above the livestock. The most senior among them understand this. They continue anyway, because the alternative is to be among the offerings rather than the feeders—for a little while longer.

---------------------------------------

Mo Lihai's sadistic smile returned, wider than before.

Mo Lihai turned away, his gaze settling on Mad Viper.

The towering fighter immediately dropped to one knee, head bowed low, the heavy axe laid flat against the stone floor in clear submission. There was no hesitation, no resistance—only absolute reverence.

"Deacon Mo," Mad Viper said, voice deep and steady, "I have done my duty faithfully."

Mo Lihai looked down at him with a faint, approving smile. The baleful qi around the deacon pulsed once, as if in acknowledgment.

"You have," Mo Lihai replied. "You served the cult well. The blood you spilled, the strength you broke, the offerings you delivered… all of it has fed the demonic seed below. The preparations for the Ceremony of Welcoming the Lord God are nearly complete because of your efforts."

He placed a hand lightly on Mad Viper's shoulder—not as a gesture of friendship, but of ownership.

"Rise. Your part is finished… for now."

Mad Viper rose smoothly from his knee, the heavy axe sliding back into his grip with practiced ease. The baleful qi still clung to him like a second skin, pulsing faintly in time with the wet, rhythmic shifting that echoed from deep below the chamber.

"Deacon Mo," he said, voice low and deferential, "do you have any further instructions?"

Mo Lihai's cold smile returned. He glanced once more at the four broken figures scattered across the room.

"Yes," Mo Lihai answered softly. "Kill them all and complete the offering. The seed below is hungry… and the Ceremony of Welcoming the Lord God requires their blood."

The words landed like a death sentence.

Just as Mad Viper raised his axe to deliver the first killing blow, the entire top of the mountain ceased to exist.

A silent, invisible force of pure annihilation vaporized stone, earth, and sky in a single instant.

The upper half of the peak simply vanished, erased as though it had never been. A shockwave of displaced air and pulverized rock blasted outward, shaking the chamber to its foundations. Dust and debris rained down through the newly opened hole in the ceiling.

Through the swirling haze, a man floated in the open sky above.

He appeared to be in his early forties, dressed in the crisp, dark uniform of the World Alliance. His expression was cold, almost serene, yet every line of his face radiated pure killing intent as he looked down at Mo Lihai.

The man floating above the ruined mountain peak finally spoke, his voice calm, clear, and carrying effortlessly through the howling wind and settling dust.

"I am Commander Elias Varen of the World Alliance's Special Operations Division."

His cold gaze never left Mo Lihai. The killing intent around him sharpened, pressing down on the chamber like a physical weight. Behind him, the twenty World Alliance operatives remained perfectly still, auras locked and ready.

"Deacon Mo Lihai of the Outer God Cult," Elias continued, each word precise and edged with ice. "You and every zealot under your command will stand down and submit to Alliance custody. The seed below will be sealed. The ceremony will not take place."

He paused, eyes narrowing slightly.

"Refuse… and none of you leave this mountain alive."

Mo Lihai's smile never faltered. If anything, it widened with genuine, delighted amusement. The baleful qi around him coiled even tighter, responding to the sudden threat like a living thing.

Without a word, Mo Lihai raised one hand and snapped his fingers.

The shadows of the chamber twisted violently. More than twenty figures stepped out of the darkness—zealots of the Outer God Cult, their bodies already wreathed in the same baleful energy, eyes empty of everything but fanatical purpose. They formed a loose ring around their deacon, weapons and qi flaring to life.

The newcomer in the sky answered in kind. He simply waved one hand.

Space itself seemed to fold. Over twenty World Alliance operatives materialized in midair and on the broken stone ledges around the chamber, each one radiating disciplined, high-level power. Their uniforms were identical to the floating man's, and their auras locked onto the cultists with lethal precision.

The two forces faced each other across the ruined chamber—one side dripping with baleful, hungry darkness, the other cold and absolute.

Mo Lihai tilted his head, still smiling.

"Well," he said softly, voice carrying easily over the howling wind, "things are starting to become a lot more exciting."
